What is focal length? | What is the use of focal length in photography?
Hello guys,
Welcome to world of photography.
Here you will get knowledge about photography.
Let's hop on to he topics.
UNDERSTANDING FOCAL LENGTHS
If you are/were a science student then you know that right!! but still read the blog you will polish your skills too.
So Focal Length in Photography is widely used in optical physics.
It's simply the distance between the focus of a mirror/lens and the centre of mirror/lens.
You did get it ,. Aaahh!!!
Okay see the picture given below
See the pictures thoroughly, you will notice that F and f these two letters are the only variables in both the samples.
Here 'F' represent focus of lens and 'f' represent focal length.
Notice that the 'f' is measured from the optical centre of lens/mirror till the 'F'. Now you would be clear . Ok !!
So in the above samples I showed you the concave lens&mirror. But this measurement is also applicable in convex lens and mirror.
If you are still confused then I'll recommend you to watch YouTube videos related to lenses and mirrors. You'll definitely learn it very well.
I can't tell you the whole physics as this blog/website is focused on photography.

I'll attach some YouTube links don't you get exhausted.
Or you can manually search in YouTube according to your choice.

Let's hop on to the main topic this was the physics little bit ...hahahah
FOCAL LENGTH IN PHOTOGRAPHY
Its not that hard it's easy believe me, you'll be clear in minutes.
Focal length is the length between the camera's optical centre to the Lens.
the camera sensor places in the camera body. Its drawn as " § " like this .
This all was just the physical appearance.
MEASUREMENTS & EXPLAINATION OF FOCAL LENGTH
Let's take an example that you have a zoom lens.
----------------
If you don't know about the different lenses then check out my blog link 👇

------------
I hope you read the blog about different types of lenses.
Ok...
You have a zoom lens let's say of 15-50mm focal length.
In 15mn focal the view/photo will be much wider than 50mm focal.
The main concept here is higher the value of focal length the narrower view/photo will be.
CONCLUSION
If you wanna click landscape or any other wide photos then you require small value of focal lengths.
And for portraits, macros, street photography and many more... Require a large focal lengths.
