Which type of lens is best as a beginner? | What are the types of camera lens?
Hi photographers this is a new blog related to types of camera lenses.
You wanna buy some lenses isn't it ?!
That's great but do you know what are the types of camera lenses present in the world of photography?
If not then I'll tell you that in this blog.
You are at right place . Just do one thing read it thoroughly and you'll be all good to go.
TYPES OF CAMERA LENSES
There are mainly 6types of camera lenses
- Standard Kit Lens
- Prime Lens
- Zoom Lens
- Telephoto Lens
- Wide Angle Lens
- Macro Lens
Kit Lens
- As the name shows that this lens comes with the camera body itself as a full package for photography.
- It's usually f/4-f/8 Aperture with 25-80mm focal length.
Don't get confused about the new word in this field "focal length".I'll make a blog post discussing about this in details.
Till then just keep in mind that this changes the view of photography.
Prime Lens
- This type of lens have fixed focal length with fixed Aperture
- The most popular prime lens for the beginner photographer is the 50mm f/1.8 lens which is the best lens for portrait photos in the beginning at us cheaper than any.
Zoom Lens
- These lenses have a range of focal lengths
- Its best for wildlife photography so as to maintain a safe distance from subject (animals/birds...)
Telephoto Lens
- These lenses comes under zoom lenses but here you get a good aperture value with a long range of focal lengths.
- This is just upgraded version you can say of zoom lenses.
- These can range from 70-200mm and more.
Wide Angle Lens
- As name shows it has wide view of photos especially for landscape photography.
- These ranges below 50 mm
And lastly my favourite
Macro Lens
- These are used for macro photography.
- These lenses provide very good quality shots and allows you to get so close to the subject which is not possible for any other type of lens
- These are expensive like telephoto/zoom lenses are.
But you get alternatives to this lens like extension tubes, reverse lens techniques.
- Macro lenses are ideal for macro shots.
TECHNIQUES USED FOR EACH LENSES
1. Kit Lens
- Normal photos(wide, zoomed (limits), macros, and more)
- Good package for beginners.
2. Prime Lens
- Normal photos but can't zoom and have lot more Bokeh effect (love for most of photographers)
3. Zoomed Lens
- Using tripods is very good practise to get stable shots.
- Make use of other hand to manually adjust the focal lengths accordingly.
- Try to fix your focus to the subject
4. Telephoto lens
- Its similar to zoomed or I should say it's an upgraded version of zoom lenses
- It has very good range of focal length with a good quality aperture (means as low values)

5. Wide Angle Lens
- You need advance techniques to capture clear and sharp photos especially landscapes
- It requires advance topics like focus stacking, exposure layering.
- I'll discuss these topics in details in another blog posts.
Lastly my favourite as I told you before
6. Macro Lens
- First of all you need lots of patience.
- Try to be silent photographer
- Buy lenses which have IS (image stabilisation) and STM(stepper motor technology)
So that's all for this blog post.
I'll be making a blog about exposure next .
I hope you enjoyed reading my blog and I hope you got your mind cleared about shutter speed with some best examples.
To support me , make sure to comment down below your suggestions to improve myself with any of your queries related to aperture and iso discussed so far.
